Ryan Aubrey

Ryan Aubrey is fulfilling his lifelong goal of working as a Hockey Scout, with Sports Management WorldWide (SMWW). His 42 years of experience; playing, working in and studying hockey, has allowed him to develop a strong sense of the game and innate ability to accurately assess players. His passion for the sport developed at the very early age of 4, when he began playing in Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada. At the age of 7, this passion only grew when he saw Mario Lemieux play for the first time. From that day forward, he fell in love with hockey and became a lifetime Pittsburgh Penguins fanatic. Throughout minor hockey, Ryan played at a high level, which generated interest from Junior A and Junior B hockey clubs. Choosing to go the University route, Ryan played in his freshman year at Carleton University, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He then went on to enroll in the Canadian Armed Forces, in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corp, as a Crewman with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. Ryan continued his playing career in the Military Inter Unit Hockey League. Over his military career that spanned 14 years, Ryan served in both domestic and foreign operations. This included a tour of duty in Afghanistan, where he served as a Leopard Tank Loader and Gunner in 2008-09, leading to him receiving the Southwest Asia Service Medal. After being injured in operational theatre, Ryan transferred to Human Resources in 2014, where he completed 4 years in the trade, before medically releasing from the Canadian Armed Forces in 2019. Ryan has worked towards and received multiple Certificates through Sports Management WorldWide, which has enabled him to build a strong foundation as a Hockey Scout. These include; Hockey GM and Scouting, Hockey Analytics, Hockey Player Development and Sports Administration. In 2019-2020, he worked as the Head Scout for the Rideau St. Lawrence Kings Minor Bantam AA Hockey Club. In 2022, he was the Team Manager of the Almonte Pakenham Thunder U9C Hockey Team. As of January 2023, Ryan has begun Scouting for SMWW. He has a large area that he’s able to scout which includes Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and New York State. All areas are within a 1-2 hour radius of his home in Almonte, Ontario, Canada, which is located just outside of Ottawa. He resides there with his children Isabella and Luca and is supported by his partner Tania and her kids; Robbie, Tyler and Steven.
